HRH Crown Princess Victoria – Patron of the Swedish Taxonomy Initiative
H.R.H. Crown Princess Victoria has agreed to become the patron of the Swedish Taxonomy Initiative. The accumulated knowledge of the Swedish plant and animal species will be published in the Encyclopedia of the Swedish Flora and Fauna, and thereby made available to the people of Sweden.
Both the Crown Princess and her father have a genuine interest in biology and nature conservation.
– I am convinced that the Swedish Taxonomy Initiative is of great importance to Sweden, both today and in the future, says the Crown Princess.
The Swedish Species Information Centre is delighted that both His Majesty the King and the Crown Princess show such an interest in animals, plants and environmental issues, and that the Crown Princess has agreed to become patron of the Swedish Taxonomy Initiative.
The Swedish Species Information Centre was commissioned by the government to produce a work of reference covering the Swedish plants, fungi and animals: the Encyclopedia of the Swedish Fauna and Flora. The purpose of this project, which is scheduled to run for 20 years, is to make the accumulated knowledge of Swedish species available to the people of Sweden. In addition to the Encyclopedia, the Swedish Taxonomy initiative will initiate inventories and taxonomic research in order to fill the large knowledge gaps about Swedish species.
